Blessed!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to send u all a big kiss and say Thank You for the overwhelming support on the Bijenkorf campaign!

The tweet I sended out to Models of Diversity went viral and got mentioned all over the world.

I feel blessed for the oppurtunity and trust Bijenkorf gave me, its a shame it is still world news when a luxury departmentstore as bijenkorf uses a disabled model. But thankfully we are making huge steps lately towards a more inclusive fashion industry.

I can’t wait to see where we are in a few years from now, but at the moment I feel like I’m on the top of the world!

Lots of love xoxo Debs

Rebekah Marine to Join Debbie and Shaholly to promote #DisabilityinHollywood

Great News! On friday I’ll be flying out to Los Angeles to promote Disability in media and fashion with amazing fellow model Shaholly Ayers from Hawaii.
After my wonderfull and succesful time in Rome at the Modelle e Rotelle show I’m very excited to go Hollywood and try to to chance the perceptions of beauty over there.

Ten days ago I recieved an email from another beginning model called Rebekah she asked me if she could join me and Shaholly on our promotion tour. She is a very beautiful girl so she’ll be joing us for a few days

Like Shaholly Ayers, Rebekah Marine was also born an upper extremity amputee below the right elbow. She got her start in modeling just 2 years ago when a friend offered to do a photo shoot with her. Since then, she has been speaking to people about embracing their own insecurities through her Facebook fan page.

For Rebekah, modeling didn’t come easy. It wasn’t until she turned 24 that she realized that she could inspire so many people – including other amputees all over the world. “It’s not easy being vulnerable and letting the world see something I’ve always tried hiding, but now I find it empowering. I enjoy talking to people about my disability; I feel like people have a better understanding of me now.” In the future, she hopes to be able to travel the world to motivate people to embrace who they truly are and to see more disabled models in the media.

Hello Rome, Here I Am ( Again )

20121130-095652.jpg

Last week I was catwalking in London, this week I’m visiting the Modelle e Rotelle event in Rome.
I can’t Believe how hectic it has been for me the last couple of weeks and months.
I’ve been traveling so much and spend more time in a plane than on my own sofa, but I feel very blessed to travel as much as I do and meet the most amazing inspiring people..

The event I’m visiting this weekend in Rome is Modelle E Rotelle a yearly Italian fashionshow featuring 25 disabled models all in a Wheelchair and 25 straightsize catwalk models.
What I Love about this show is that they intergrated the disabled models onto a catwalk with straightsize mainstream models. This is how it should be!

Today I’m going to the press event with the Italian Models of Diversity director Alessandro Capocetti trying to get some of the MoD Abled Models like Shaholly Ayers and Faye Povey into next years show!

Also I’m gonna meet with Tamara Mena from the US she has been in contact with me and Models of Diversity for a while now she is hosting the events this year and one of the models.

I hope to catch her for a quick interview! Please visit my blog on a regular base the next few days for backstage reports and some fun updates!

Love from Italy! Xo
